She has been often described by critics as having ‘a keen aesthetic sense with flawless bowing technique’. Anupriya has been acknowledged as one of the most promising and outstanding young classical North Indian violinist. “I have a unique style of my own.
It is on the lines of fusion where I blend the elements of gayaki (vocal rendering) and tantarakari (instrumental rhythmic patterns), a manner in which not many are found playing the violin in the entire sub-continent, explains Anupriya.
Further, her music combines the traditions of the sarangi and the violin and she is particularly well known for the subtle nuances that she infuses with a great deal of imagination in her work.
Daughter of well-known Hindi poet Dr. Chandrakant Deotale, Anupriya has trained under some of the greatest musicians of the time like P.L. Dandwate, S.L. Kandara and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Presently, she is under the guidance of the great sarangi maestro, Pandit Ramnarayan.
Anupriya gets constant support and guidance from her husband Mukesh Sharma, a very talented and versatile sarod artist.
Explains Anupriya, “The association of my violin with Mukeshji’s sarod renders musical duets spanning all that begins from our personal life to the professional worlds. Our jugalbandi or dyadic bonding has resulted in interesting experiments in fusion music. This duet is not only unique, but perhaps the sole example of such musical woes in terms of different levels of pitch and sound to integrate them harmoniously.
Anupriya has also been in forefront for experimenting with a vast array of musical sounds. In this quest, she has worked with artists of varied musical backgrounds from all over the world.
Anupriya has performed at Madhya Pradesh Sangeet Samaroh, Khandwa, Sangeet Nritya Mahotsav, Tirupati, Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, Bombay, Music Festival in India International Centre, Delhi, Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Society, Gwalior, Sangeetotsav, Sangeet Natak Academy, Aurangabad.
